  2. Babies • A baby whale is called a calf. • Some calves are thirteen feet long when they are born. • They drink their mother’s milk until they are one year old.

  3. Movement • Whales jump over the water. • Whales use their tails to swim. • Whales have flippers that they use to steer them when they swim.

  4. Appearance • Whales have a blowhole on their backs. • Whales have flippers on the sides of their bodies. • A blue whale is the largest animal on earth.

  5. Habitat • Whales live in the ocean. • They like to swim in very cold water. • They like very deep and black water.

  6. Interesting Facts • Baleen whales can grow to be one hundred feet long. • Blue whales are the biggest whales in the ocean. • Toothed whales are smaller than baleen whales.

  7. WHAT THEY EAT • Sperm whales eat squid. • Toothed whales eat fish, squid and seals. • Killer whales like to eat sea mammals, fish, and other whales.
