Habitat • Whales are found in every ocean and many rivers. • Some species of whale live alone, and some live within a group, called a pod.
Appearance • Whales can grow to a length of 31 metres and a weight of 200 tonnes. • A narwhal has a horn on the front of its face, like a unicorn. • A sperm whale has a huge face compared to the rest of its body.
Types of Whale • There are about 78 different species of whale. • Here are some: • Killer Whale • Killer whales are actually dolphins, not whales. • The fastest mammals in the seas • Females may live to 90 years old • Sperm Whale • Have the largest brains in the world • Eats more than a tonne of squid per day
Prey / Predators • The killer whale has no natural predators. • Sperm whales can dive up to 2km in search of food, like fish and squid. • Some whales eat and are eaten by other whales and sharks.
