  1. PA Dutch 101 Video 27: Separable Prefix Verbs. Verbs die net zammebleiwe.

  2. Separable Prefix Verbs • Some verbs in PD can be combined with prefixes which in turn change their meaning: • kumme – to come • aakumme – to arrive • In present tense usage, the prefix will separate from the verb and move to the end of the sentence or question: • Subject – Verb – other stuff – Prefix. • Verb – Subject – other stuff- Prefix?

  3. Separable Prefix Verbs • Let’s use aakummeas an example. • The train is arriving at 2 o’clock: • Der Draenkummt um 2 Uhraa. • Let’s turn that sentence into a question: • Kummtder Draen um 2 Uhraa?

  4. Separable Prefix Verbs • As covered in Video 20, when a Modal is used in a sentence, the verb is forced to the end of the sentence. • This rule applies with Sep. Prefix Verbs. When this happens, the verb does not split apart: • Der Draensollum 2 Uhraakumme. • This also happens in the Future Tense (Video 23): • Der Draenwaerdum 2 Uhraakumme.
