Introduction to our experiment We… • found out how magnetizing a seed will affect its height. • magnetized seeds with the North and South magnetic unipole. • magnetized seeds for different periods of time
Materials • Green bean seeds and chilli seeds • Pots • 1.5kg of potting soil • Fertilizer • Magnets with 1000 gauss each • Petri dishes • Stopwatches • Tape
Control • Seeds which are not magnetised • To make sure that the change in the height of the plant is because the seed is magnetised and not because of other factors • To act as a comparison to seeds which are magnetised
Method to conduct the experiment Step 1: Attach the 1000 gauss magnet onto the petri dish with tape. Ensure the magnet is in the centre of the petri dish. Step 2: Put 9 seeds onto the petri dish. Put them in the centre of the petri dish. Step 3: Use the stopwatch and wait for the specified perid of time. Step 4: Put potting soil into the pot until one quarter-filled.
Method to conduct the experiment Step 5: When the seeds have finished magnetizing, put them in the soil. Put 3 seeds into each pot. Step 6: Grow the plants for two weeks. Step 7: Measure the height of the plant. Step 8: Repeat the previous steps with different amounts of time to magnetize the seeds.
Conclusion • Magnetized plants grow taller than non-magnetized plants. • The plant will grow better when magnetized with the North unipole of the magnet rather than the South unipole. • The optimum timing for magnetising a seed is 1.5 hours.
