Typography • Type is made of many unique fonts.
Typography • Display face- Decorative fonts good for headers and getting people’s attention • Body copy- good for long blocks of text.
Typography • We can edit font appearance in 3 primary ways • Tracking • Kerning • Leading
Tracking • The uniform distance between letters in words. • Includes distance between words.
Kerning • The spacing between letters in words • Very similar to Tracking, but not the same thing.
Kerning • Technically speaking… • Certain letters must be “Kerned” closer together than others.
Leading • Refers to the space between lines of type

Serif vs Sans Serif Fonts • Serif fonts (Feet) • Have a formal, traditional feel • Sans Serif fonts (“Without Feet”) • Have a modern, contemporary feel
Choosing the right fonts and style • Think about the purpose of the text • Make it is • Readable • 9-12 point body copy • ~16 point display type • Conveys the correct emotions
