Background • Resolution driven • Developed Partners • Hired North Coast Wind and Power to determine best location to test • Report available online; www.ewashtenaw.org/wind • Resolution to fund next stage (investment grade wind study)
Goals • To determine the feasibility of developing Utility Scale turbines as well as smaller turbines. • Interested in the wind resource at or near hub-height of modern utility scale turbines. • Possibly correlating data with other towers erected by our partners in the County
Partners • City of Ann Arbor; AA energy office staff has been working with us. City is interested in wind potential due to pledge to use 20% renewable resources within 5 years. • University of Michigan; Professor in Atmospheric Science is conducting a class concurrently, using our project as practical experience.
Site/ Leasing, other • North Coast Wind and Power has helped us determine the most viable locations to test, as well as submitted applications to the FAA. • The County will be approaching landowners in the pre-selected area and negotiating a contract to use an area for testing • Bat study will need to be performed
After 6 months • After 6 months; • Assess preliminary results; • Continue testing • Erect a second tower • Discontinue testing
