  2. Aims • To scope the extent to which educational and training provision across health and social care providers meets End of Life Care strategies. • To identify any gaps in specified areas of education from varied perspectives

  3. To make recommendations for education and training requirements that cover: • the workforce skill mix and sectors including: • Staff who spend the whole of their time caring for those at end of life. • Staff who frequently deal with end of life care • Staff involved in providing end of life care work across different sectors. • the diverse needs of the workforce • meeting relevant standards • stakeholder perspectives • the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes to provide high quality care

A Scoping Activity Establishing baseline dataset • Providers • Type/range of education and training. • Mode and amount of delivery • Academic level and accreditation of the education and training • The geographical location of the provision • Target audience across health and social care workforce in the Northwest. • Content • Underlying frameworks/guidance

A telephone call for initial contact, to facilitate dialogue with regards to access and snowballing • Survey tool to reflect flavour of: • Gold Standards Framework • NW EOL Care Pathway • National End of Life Care Strategy • Core Competencies for End of Life Care • Communication skills • Assessment of the persons needs and preferences. • Advance care planning • Symptom control

  8. Focus Groups • A cross regional stratified sample of staff • Six focus groups to cover geographical areas • 1 Merseyside • 2 Cumbria & Lancashire • 2 Greater Manchester; • 1 Cheshire. • Basic demographics • Training received • Experience • Setting

  10. C Workshop • For educational, health and social care staff, patients and carers • Aim • Review findings • Initiate the dissemination strategy • Provide opportunities to consider impact across the workforce and the quality of end of life care provision • Discuss the way forward • Network

Outputs • A map of education and training in end of life care across the northwest • A gap analysis that will be based on the North west end of life care model from varied perspectives • Recommendations that will inform education commissioning and governance • A final report and other appropriate summaries with recommendations for further work
