The ASTHMA FLAG PROGRAM at Community Services Agency…Is a multi-colored flag system used to create public awareness about air pollution and poor air quality in the community.
WHAT DOES EACH COLOR MEAN? Each color of the flag determines the recommended outdoor activities for children and adults, based on the air quality index.It also provides options to people with asthma or other respiratory conditions to better plan their daily outdoor activities for better health.
Green- Air outside is good and healthy Yellow-Air outside is moderate & unhealthy for only “sensitive”children & adults who have respiratory diseases, such as asthma. Orange-Air outside is unhealthy. Children & adults who are “sensitive” should limit prolonged outdoor exertion. Red-Air outside is unhealthy for everyone. Children & adults who are “sensitive” should avoid outdoor activities and have alternative indoor activities made available. “Sensitive” means children & adults with respiratory diseases, such as asthma.
