Philosophy To adequately prepare our students to meet the demands of a globalised and multilingual society by increasing their linguistic competence and socio- cultural awareness.
OBJECTIVES • develop an awareness and tolerance of, and an appreciation for the culture of Spanish-speaking societies;
OBJECTIVES • develop an attitude to Spanish as a medium of communication in real-life situations;
OBJECTIVES develop the disposition and confidence to use the language to communicate;
OBJECTIVES improve speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills;
OBJECTIVES master the Spanish grammar system in order to use the language to express personal meanings;

FOCUS ONCOMMUNICATION Questions will reflect a more holistic and communicative approach to the use of the language.
FOCUS ONCOMMUNICATION Questions will be set from a thematic perspective, thus reflecting students’ daily lives and interaction.
FOCUS ONCOMMUNICATION Grammar and vocabulary items are therefore not assessed in isolation and in non- meaningfulcontexts.

THEMES • Students at the 6th form and tertiary levels will be exposed to the above mentioned themes, as well as those which are reflected in units 1 and 2 of the CAPE syllabus.
FOCUS ON CULTURE • There is a cultural component for each theme.

USE OF TECHNOLOGY AND OTHER INSTRUCTIONAL AIDS • Audio visual questions may be set and facilitated by the use of DVD clips, music, photos, realia, etc.

Submission of Questions • Each school must submit 100 (50 pairs) matching questions for each category that they enter.
Submission of Questions Questions should be submitted according to themes.
Submission of Questions • Questions should be submitted in the form of written matches- NOT RANDOMLY. • AN ANSWER MUST BE PROVIDED.
Vetting of Questions • Questions submitted will be vetted by the Quiz Committee- an independent body of Spanish language specialists. • Questions that are to be edited will be returned to the writers/ teachers so that they can be amended and re-sent. This has to be done to ensure the corresponding school’s participation in the competition.
