Fronts • A front is when hot air collides with cold air affecting the weather.
Warm fronts • When warm air chases after cold air, and the cold air goes down and the warm air is above, creating a slope, the warm air then cools, which creates a bunch of clouds that release moderate rainfall.
Cold fronts • When cold air chases warm air the effect is steeply sloped, and the warm air has to rise to rise quickly. If the air is moist water condenses into cumulonimbus clouds producing heavy, but brief thunderstorms.
clouds • Clouds are the most common thing in the sky. • There are lots of different types of clouds.
stratus • Comes from the word “ layer”. • Dark and moisture filled.
nimbostratus • Grey clouds at a low altitude.
Altostratus • Thin, white layer at middle altitude.
Cirrostratus • Thin, bright, and high altitude hazy clouds. • Made entirely out of ice crystals.
cumulus • From Latin word meaning” heap”. • Fluffy clouds with flat bottoms
Cirrus • High, thin, and wispy clouds. • Made of ice crystals. • Some, known as “mares tails” that look like strands of hair.
Cumulonimbus • Uprising, towering clouds. Sometimes they get up to 11 miles deep. If you see one, expect heavy rain, snow, sleet, hail, or thunderstorms.
