  4. Only place a comma before a coordinating conjunction if an independent clause follows the conjunction.

  5. We finished the jigsaw puzzle but two pieces are missing. • The teacher gave us class work but no homework. • She went to the library and her sister went home. • Dave had an apple and he played outside afterwards.
