Engaging all care providers Facilitator: Dr I.D. Rusen, The Union Rapporteur: Dr H. Bisase, Uganda
Current situation Based on experiences from Bangladesh; Ethiopia; Myanmar; Nigeria; Pakistan; Thailand; Uganda and other DEWG members • Varied levels of engagement in both providers and scope of activities • Limited systematic assessment of public and private stakeholders, informal providers, and their potential • Presence of national PPM guidelines and implementation plans vary across countries
Main issues/challenges to be addressed • Stakeholder/situation analysis of all formal and informal care providers • Specific challenges in different settings (urban, rural and hard-to-reach areas) • Recording and reporting from non-NTP providers & appropriate feedback • Referral linkages • Migration • Documentation and evaluation of activities
Action oriented steps for NTPs • Conduct situation assessment and develop and implement PPM guidelines and country level plans • Link PPM to information systems (R&R plus feedback) and collect data including child-specific data • Resource mobilization for PPM • More focus on public-public mix and workplaces and providers working with the poor and vulnerable populations • Recognize role and potential contribution of patient community groups and informal providers (all stakeholders to be represented in national coordinating body)
Action oriented steps for Partners • Provider specific PPM guidelines • Evaluation tools for PPM initiatives • Document PPM experiences in different context • Ensuring sufficient resources for PPM implementation (resource mobilization) • Focus on Countries in early stages of PPM
