Video Production on a Budget. We started developing this “room” because we had a mandate to make a new FEMBA section Hybrid (where 50% of the lecture would be in-class and 50% online). We took what we had laying around, bought a couple of other items and started our “Production Studio”.

  1. Video Production on a Budget • We started developing this “room” because we had a mandateto make a new FEMBA section Hybrid (where 50% of the lecture would be in-class and 50% online). • We took what we had laying around, bought a couple of other items and started our “Production Studio”. • The major contributor (or maybe I should say Non-contributor)to our production studio was the lack of space. We were semi-nomads for a while and so we had to have equipment that was able to move around. • As time went by (2 ½ years) we slowly upgraded some itemsto what we have today.

Video Production on a Budget • Here’s the list of items that make the “MAGIC” happen today: • Camera – JVC GY-HM600 ~ $3,500 • Green Screen Lighting Kit ~ $150 • Rodes Shotgun Microphone ~ $269 • 24” Smart Sympodium ~ $2,400 • Adobe Premier Pro CS6 ~ $380 • Dell Desktop Computer ~ $660 • *Mediasite– Since we already had one, we use it to encode and the server to stream, but you can use any encoder and streaming service.

Video Production on a Budget • Initially we started with equipment that totaled $3,460 (again not including the Mediaiste) and now have upgraded to the list you just saw totaling $6,700. • Production • Now we put the equipment to work, starting the first year with one student assistant and then hiring a second one the second year as the work load increased. • 1) We take the encoded footage from the Sympodiumand the Mediasite and then edit it in Premier pro to output an MP4 file.

  6. Video Production on a Budget • 2) Once we have the MP4, we upload them to our • streaming servers: - Mediasite server or - Kaltura server. • So again it’s taken us a little over 2 ½ years to get where we are and here’s the final product….. • Prof. Freixes Part - 1 • Prof. Freixes Part - 2

Video Production – Phase 2 • Now that this has taken off and we are recording almost on a daily bases we are ‘hopefully’ about to move to a semi-permanent Production Studio. • We are looking to move to a different location that will be better suited for recording; soundproofed, higher ceilings, more room, more lights etc. • This will enable us to record the live product to look more like the end result (green screen being keyed out, video on top of video positioned properly, etc) as apposed to all the post-production work that we currently have to do.
