WIND • Caused by a difference in AIR PRESSURE
WIND • Horizontal movement of air from an area of High Pressure to an area of Low Pressure
Wind Speed • Measured with an Anemometer
Local Winds • Blow over short distances • Form only when no other winds are blowing from farther away. • Caused by unequal heating of Earth’s surface.
Naming Winds • Winds are named by where they come FROM
Monsoons • Seasonal Land and Sea Breezes which occur annually
Monsoons 250 cm = 98 in PA = 41 per year, about 3 per month
Global Winds • Caused by the movement of air from the poles to the equator
Doldrums • Near the Equator • Warm air is rising, so there is little or no wind
Coriolis effect • Winds curve because of the spinning of the earth
