Hamlet Final Assessment 155 points
Examples: Part A • Rising Action (Macbeth): • Macbeth killing King Duncan in Act II • This event leads to Macbeth’s ultimate downfall (death) because once he is able to overcome the initial guilt he develops a sort of invincibility complex, which gets him into more trouble. • Climax (Romeo & Juliet): • Romeo killing Tybalt in Act III • This event is the climax because it is where Romeo has made an irreversible mistake and he cannot go back. This is the turning point because it leads to Romeo’s banishment from Verona and sets Juliet and Romeo’s plan in motion.
Examples: Part B • Macbeth: • Flaw: Desire for power (hubris) • Ordering Banquo to be killed (III.iv.101) • Romeo: • Flaw: Impulsive • Falling in “love” with a masked stranger before finding out who that person is (I.v.73)
