N6-SP: Standards and Protocols (M. Bachmann, S. Weide, S. Holzwarth, DLR) EUFAR GA02 – 2nd General Assembly Meeting 14/09/2009 – Evora, Portugal
Standards and Protocols – Wherefore? • Support users and operators with recommendations on best practice • Definition on necessary meta-data • Common semantics and terminologies • Recommendation of EUFAR-FP6-midterm review -> Consistency to the data improves the efficiency of their use • Ensure harmonization, integration and interoperability • Assist new/inexperienced users • Facilitate inter-calibration experiments • Allow comparison of results • Enable easier exchange of data
N6-SP Objectives • Development of common protocols • Recommendations on best practice for data pre-processing • Production of software-toolboxes for data analysis and higher level data products • Standards and protocols for real-time data exchange and data links N6-SP addresses the overall suite of airborne data within EUFAR. Within N6-SP the hyperspectral remote sensing community will be represented by DLR, the atmospheric research will be represented by Meteo-France.
N6-SP Tasks • Task 1 – Common Protocols • Aim: harmonisation and improvement of existing protocols • Task 2 –Best Practices • Aim: establish “best practice” by providing technical documentation & comparisons • Task 3 – Software Toolboxes • Aim: provide SW for higher level product development (link to JRA2) • Task 4 – Data Exchange • Aim: establish standards for (real-time) data links • Overall coordination & reporting
Upcoming DN6.1.1 Review report on standards and protocols for data processing and basic glossary • Glossary on hyperspectral remote sensing • HYRESSA glossary • EnMAP glossary • VDI glossary • Existing literature (e. g., textbooks) • Overview on Standards and Protocols • GEO/GEOSS • CEOS • ISO • CEN • Inspire and GDI-DE • HYRESSA • Additional initiatives (e. g. VDI, OGC) • Input by MeteoFrance for atmospheric science
Upcoming DN6.2.1 Review of existing pre-processing software • Geocoding • PARGE • ORTHO • Image processing SW • ENVI, ERDAS Imagine, TNTMIPS, PCI, IDRISI… • Atmospheric correction • FLAASH / QUAC (ITT Vis) • ATCOR • Acorn • “Vito”-Approach • Image processing SW • ENVI, ERDAS Imagine, TNTMIPS, PCI, IDRISI… • Image & Spectra Processing Toolboxes • ASTools • SPECCIO-Toolbox • VIPER Tools • JRA2 – PAF descriptions in DJ2.1.1 • JRA2 – Toolbox for water & soil products • N7DB – Harmonization
Activities Participation in related activities: • EUFAR/ICCAGRA Meeting during ISPRS, Stresa (N9SST) • IWGs on standardization topics • JRA2 • Development of toolboxes • EWG meeting in Warsaw • EUFAR “handbook”
Overall Progress • Activities delayed due to late arrival of Matt Freer, but catching up… • Increased reviewing period for glossary on terms related to hyperspectral RS • Repeated communication problems due to incomplete mailing lists & webpage
Next Steps • Circulation of DN6.1.1 (esp. Glossary) for review by interested researchers (JRA2, EWGs, external) • Merging parts of deliverables by MF & DLR • Meeting with MF (tbc) • Intensify contact with • N7DB => Data formats & database • N8EC => Distribution of Glossary & embedding of Toolbox • N9SST => ISPRS-WGs • JRA2 => Toolboxes
