Central Maine Economic Trends - Population • Between 2000 & 2008 Central Maine’s population increased from 52,911 to 54,836, an increase of 3.6% • Maine’s population increased 3.1% during that same time period • The U.S. population increased 7.9% during that same time period • Central Maine’s median age is 41.0, slightly higher than Maine’s (40.7) and much higher than the U.S. (36.7)
Central Maine Economic Trends - Income • Between 2000 & 2007 the Waterville micropolitan area experienced a 26.5% increase in per capita income, from $25,433 to $32,166 • During that same period, Maine’s increased by 30.9% ($33,991 in 2007) and the U.S. by 29.4% ($38,615 in 2007) • Private Sector Share of Income in 2006: Kennebec Co. – 51.7% (15th); Somerset Co. – 62.4% (11th)
Central Maine Economic Trends - Industry • In 2008, 28.5% of Central Maine’s employment was in the education & health services sectors – Augusta: 15.4%; Maine: 18.1% • Between 2004 & 2008, Central Maine’s employment in mfg. increased from 6.6% to 7.5%
