The scope of interest to be addressed by the domain.(1/2) Scope Statement of the proposed domain: • IHE Endoscopy will address information sharing, workflow and patient care where endoscopes are used. • Gastrointestinal and other area where endoscopies are used are the scope of the interest. • It is affected by systems and activities in hospital endoscopy departments or endoscopy private offices. Notable interoperability/information sharing problems to be addressed: • Many of the communication between department system and hospital-wide enterprise system are composed of proprietary protocol. Even in the cases that employ HL7 and DICOM standards, each implementation is different. • Because of the situation, both users and vendors experience difficulty in not only defining interoperability functional requirement, but also quality, cost and development time.   4. 3.The scope of interest to be addressed by the domain.(2/2) Rational for creating the new domain : • Although a lot of similarities are seen between endoscopy and other domains like radiology, endoscopy has its own workflow. • First major difference is that the performer is not a technician but medical doctor. Therefore, sometimes different examination than ordered is done. Also as it is done by doctor, report is always necessary for the examination, it means we need report relating description in fundamental endoscopy profile. • The second major difference is the number of inter-department order. Once the doctor conduct biopsy, anatomical pathology order is needed. Biopsy is a popular performance in endoscopy. • Those are just examples. Such understanding of the differences is necessary to define endoscopy technical framework. And the place, where the persons who know endoscopy well meet together, is demanded.
