13% of the US population. There are not enough neurologists or headache specialists to see the 38 million individuals with migraine. For years there have been no advances in therapies to treat and prevent this ?nancially and socially crippling illness. Providers and patients have had to resort to settling for limited improvement in symptoms and look to non-targeted medications with a potential for serious side effects for preventative options. With the new CGRP targeted therapies brings new hope for signi?cant relief for migraine sufferers. The safety, ease of use, and tolerability of these medications herald an opportunity for primary care to make a huge impact on the quality of life for their migraine patients. Join us to review the pathophysiology of migraine, what we learned in training and what’s new today. Review traditional treatment approaches and how to successfully implement the new CGRP targeted medications, both currently available and those pending FDA approval, in treating and preventing migraines in your clinical practice. Learning Objectives: After participating in this conference, participants should be better able to: • Identify the migraine types and the neuroin?ammatory peptides that play a role in migraine pathogenesis, and how they affect migraine pathways • Describe current and emerging treatment options for migraine • Recognize how a CGRP monoclonal antibody agent could modulate migraine treatment • Incorporate optimal acute and preventive treatment of migraine in special populations 2 Speaking Susan L.
