Adjectives Grammar
Rules • Adjectives agree in gender and number with the nouns that they describe.
2. Adjectives for certain colors (arancione, beige, blu, rosa, viola) are invariable, that is, they never change their endings. • For example: • Unagiaccablu. • Due bandiererosa. • Due T-shirt beige. • Un quaderno viola.
More rules • Adjectives that end in –eonly show number, not gender. • This is why the endings of the adjectives don’t always match the endings of the nouns.
Rules (cont.) • Adjectives usually follow the noun. • For example, • Il bambinobello • However, there are several adjectives that always come before the noun and omit the definite article.
For example: • moltocaffè • pococaffè • Questo(this) indicates people or things that are near you. • Also, quest’ is commonly used before singular nouns that begin with a vowel. • Quest’amicaQuest’esame
Rules (Cont. 2) • Use quello(that) for items that are far away. • Quello follows the pattern of definite article learned in the previous chapter.
