Background Information • All children are assessed at the end of Key Stage 1 in English, Mathematics and Science • Tests and tasks are carried out using teacher assessment and SATs test and task papers in English and mathematics. Science is based on teacher assessment only • The government’s aim is to get all pupils to achieve Level 2b+ by the end of Key Stage 1

  3. Measuring Success • The emphasis is based on teacher assessments using APP materials. • The children are continually assessed throughout the year. • The SATs tests are used to inform final teacher judgements.

What can you do at home? • Try and read with your child every day and ask questions about the story/factual information. • Support your child to read ‘unseen’ texts. • Encourage writing for a purpose, for example a letter to Grandma, a birthday list, postcards. • Spend time talking with your child and explaining things they show an interest in. • Enjoy maths games and activities together; remembering to use mathematical language. • There are many online learning sites such as BBC bitesize, topmarks.co.uk • Make activities short, often and fun.
