UTS:HIGHER EDUCATION ACCESS SCHOLARSHIPS • UTS provides a range of scholarships to assist students experiencing financial hardship, to participate in higher education • COMMONWEALTH EDUCATIONAL COSTS SCHOLARSHIP • $2,082 per year for a maximum of four years • COMMONWEALTH ACCOMMODATION SCHOLARSHIP • $4,161 per year for a maximum of four years • UTS DIVERSITY ACCESS SCHOLARSHIP • $300–$2,000 in total

  4. UTS:SPORTS SCHOLARSHIPS • Available to high achievers in a wide range of sporting pursuits • Up to $2,500 cash grants depending on performance level • Free UTS gym membership • Assistance with academic matters • Subsidised fees when competing for UTS in University Sporting Competitions

  5. TAFE: Pathways • COMPLETE A RECOGNISED TAFE COURSE THEN APPLY TO UTS • Many TAFE courses are now recognised by UTS and articulate into UTS courses • UTS offers some subject exemptions to students who apply to study at UTS after completing study at TAFE • Apply through UAC

TAFE: Pathways • UTS offers some subject exemptions to students who apply to study at UTS after completing study at TAFE. • Generally UTS gives exemptions based on whether a TAFE Diploma or Advanced Diploma course has been completed (2-3 years of full-time study). • The level of subject exemption normally depends on the grade point average of the subjects in the completed TAFE course.

TAFE Courses that articulate into UTS degrees • Example 1 • Diploma/Advanced Diploma in Architectural Technology • Gives students exemption for the following subjects: • 11214 Architectural Design- Architectural Communication 1 • 11208 Architectural Design- Architectural Communication 2 • 11217 Introduction to Construction and Structural Synthesis • 11226 Architectural Structure and Construction • Example 2 • Certificate IV in Nursing (Enrolled) • Can Lead to B Nursing (Accelerated Program) • Students are exempt from a full year of study and complete 2 years full time with B Nursing

INSEARCH: Faculty Pathways • COMPLETE A COURSE AT UTS INSEARCH THEN APPLYTO UTS • INSEARCH is the provider of alternative pathways to UTS • Successful completion of a diploma (8-20 months) can provides eligibility into the equivalent of second year at selected UTS courses • INSEARCH courses are designed and often taught by UTS lecturers

HSC Bonus Points Scheme • UTS will award bonus UAI points based on the students performance in selected HSC subjects. • Eligibility to receive bonus points are based on whether the student has: • applied for a UTS course that awards bonus points • a 2008 UAI (or interstate equivalent) • completed the relevant HSC subjects to have points awarded

  12. HSC Bonus Points Scheme • The maximum number of HSC Bonus points awarded for each UTS course is 5 (except Engineering) • Engineering courses have a maximum of 6 bonus points • UTS has an Online calculator to determine Bonus UAI Points. Check the website for details www.uts.edu.au

  13. HSC Bonus Points Scheme • Example • Sarah would like to study the Bachelor of Science (Flexible) - UAC code 607001 and has completed the following 2008 NSW HSC subjects with the following performance bands: • 15240 Mathematics (Performance band = 4)15030 Biology (Performance band = 6)

  14. HSC Bonus Points Scheme • Sarah will receive the following bonus points: • 15240 Mathematics (Performance band 4) = 2 HSC bonus points • 15030 Biology (Performance band 6) = 3 HSC bonus points

INPUTS EDUCATIONAL ACCESS SCHEME • INPUTS EDUCATIONAL ACCESS SCHEME • For students whose circumstances have seriously affected their educational performance during Years 11 and/or 12 • UAI buffer of up to ten UAI points • Disadvantages include disrupted schooling, financial hardship, English language difficulty, personal illness/disability, home environment & responsibilities and school environment
