HOW TO GET YOUR NAICS CODES (pronounced “Naics” as in “Snakes”) NORTH AMERICAN INDUSTRY CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM See: Table of NAICS Codes Matched to Business Size Standards http://www.sba.gov/content/small-business-size-standards
WHAT IS A NAICS CODE? A NAICS code consists of six (6) digits. The first two digits indicate your economic sector. The third digit indicates your industry subsector. The fourth refers to your industry group. The fifth refers to your industry. And the sixth digit specifies an industry that is specific to the U.S., Canada, or Mexico.
Why do I need NAICS Codes? • All Government Contracting Offices require NAICS codesto determine eligibility to bid on contracts. • To be eligible for an award, businesses must meet the definition of a small business and meet the small business size standard of the NAICS code assigned by the Procurement Contracting Officer (PCO). • Procurements under $3,000 in value do not require a NAICS code (Government Purchase Card – credit card buys).
NAICS Codes Continued 4. The PCO-assigned NAICS code will appear in the synopsis and solicitation. 5. Therefore, a basic way to find solicitationsthat you may be able to perform is to search by your NAICS codes. 6. You don’t have to have the solicitationNAICS code listed on your SAM registration web page to qualify.
