UBC Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) 2014: Start Talking Alma Mater Society Council Meeting – AMS Council Chambers Wednesday, January 8th, 2014 UBC, Musqueam Territory
SASC Values Everyone has the right to live in a society free from violence. Everyone has the right to be treated with respect and dignity. Working together with others in our community is essential to ending violence and creating a healthy community: “No one is free while others are oppressed.” Feminism, anti-oppression and recognition of intersectionalities of oppression influence our work.
Anyone, regardless of age, race, sexual orientation, disability, socioeconomic status, or geographic location is at risk of sexual assault • However, the majority of sexual assault survivors are: • Women • Between the ages of 15-24 • People with disabilities • Low income or marginalized populations

“Imagine living in a world where there is no domination, where females and males are not alike or even always equal, but where a vision of mutuality is the ethos shaping our interaction. Imagine living in a world where we can all be who we are, a world of peace and possibility. Feminist revolution alone will not create such a world; we need to end racism, class elitism, imperialism. But it will make it possible for us to be fully self-actualized females and males able to create beloved community, to live together, realizing our dreams of freedom and justice, living the truth that we are all “created equal.” -bell hooks (Feminism Is For Everybody) Feminism is for everybody
