  2. Adaptations • To adapt means to change in order to survive. • During the cold winter season, animals, like people must adapt to their environment. What are some things that humans do to adapt to cold weather?

  3. Migration • To migrate is to change location. • Animals migrate during the winter in order to survive. • Migration allows animals to find warm weather or to find some place with more food in order to live. • Some travel far distances and others short distances

  4. Animals that Migrate • Birds • Fish • Bats • Caribou and Elk • Whales • Butterflies and Moths

  5. Hibernation • Hibernation is when animals sink into a deep sleep to conserve energy and survive • During hibernation animal’s body temperatures drop and their heartbeat and breathing slow greatlty • They get ready to hibernate by eating extra food and storing it as extra fat • It is important for animals to hibernate to survive because some food becomes very scare during the winder months
