School Library Information CentreThe most essential facility in your school 40 years of research has proven time and again that student achievement on standardized tests can increase by 3 to 15% if the School Library Information Centre (SLIC) • Is staffed by a full-time, qualified TL • Is open to students at any time during the school day • Has a TL who collaboratively plans and facilitates instructional units with teachers • Has a TL who teaches information literacy skills • Has a TL who provides in-service to other teachers

Diamond in the Rough Gold What You Give What you get • Basic custodial duties • student record maintenance (SIRSI) • item record maintenance (SIRSI) • automated circulation (including overdue and circulation reports) • collection development/maintenance Silver • 5 periods admin time free of prep or supervision • Full budget allotment • Designated TL Bronze Diamond in the Rough Prior to ELRI ELRI has brought all libraries to this basic level. This level of admin staffing is required to operate the SIRSI automated system and to prevent the loss of the collection.

Bronze Gold What You Give What you get Silver • Basic custodial duties • student record maintenance • item record maintenance • automated circulation • collection development/maintenance • Resource-based reading literacy activities • Resource-based Information Literacy activities • Qualified TL • Full budget allotment • 5 periods admin • Some time in library • Some time in other capacity Bronze Diamond in the Rough Prior to ELRI In this level, the TL performs some teaching duties outside of the SLIC but has most of his/her scheduled teaching periods in the library.

Silver Gold What You Give What you get Silver • Basic custodial duties • student record maintenance • item record maintenance • automated circulation • collection development/maintenance • Resource-based reading literacy activities • Resource-based Information Literacy activities • Increased student access • SLIC open all the time • Greater control of collection • Qualified TL • Full budget allotment • 5 periods admin • All teaching performed inside SLIC Bronze Diamond in the Rough Prior to ELRI In this level, the TL performs all scheduled teaching duties inside the SLIC. There is no unscheduled time outside of admin and prep.

There is some unscheduled time for collaborative units.

Polished Diamond What You Give What you get • Basic custodial duties • student record maintenance • item record maintenance • automated circulation • collection development/maintenance • Resource-based reading literacy activities • Resource-based Information Literacy activities • Increased student access • SLIC open all the time • Greater control of collection • Resource-based cooperatively planned units • Integrated Information Literacy units • TL as curriculum leader • In-service for other staff • Specialized TL • Full budget allotment • Fully unscheduled time for collaboration At this level, all of the Teacher Librarian’s time is unscheduled and all conditions necessary to increase student achievement have been met. HIGHER TEST SCORES!
