Seat-Occupant and Polyurethane Foam ModelingAnil Bajaj & Patricia Davies, School of Mechanical Engineering, Purdue University. Contact: bajaj@ecn.purdue.edu & daviesp@ecn.purdue.edu Goal:Relate seat materials and construction to occupant settling point and vibration response. Models of Foam Behavior:Micro Macroscopic Modeling Hyperelastic models & polynomial nonlinear elastic models. Hereditary & fractional derivative models of viscoelasticity, linear and nonlinear. System identification: long memory, excitation properties for robust identification. Seat Occupant Models: Simplified models that include material properties to facilitate seat design and understanding of seat-occupant dynamics. 2 Hz 8 Hz On-going and Future Work: Modeling seat-occupant interfacial forces and shear effects. Response of multi-layered foams. More global models of foam to predict static response and dynamic response over a larger range of excitations.
