Starter: Create an KWL chart • In your notebook, page 1, dated it 2/5/12 • Create a KWL chart – about the Geography of Europe • Identify what you already know about the Geography of Europe • Identify what you want to learn about the Geography of Europe • You will return after the end of the Unit and add what you have learned

  3. Geography • Geography – Natural Features or Physical features of the Earth, mountains and rivers, the layout of place, the arrangement

  6. Large cities are located along rivers because they provided a convenient transportation route and a method for shipping goods.

  7. Read, in History Alive Text, Setting the Stage, page 2 - 3 • Read Unit 1 Setting the Stage, Europe During Medieval Times and examine the Maps • We will study a specific place – Europe • during a specific time period – Medieval or Middle Ages 475 – 1450

  8. Geography Challenge 1. Complete 1- 11 of the Geography Challenge 2. If it says label, you label the item on your map 3. If it ask a question, with a “ ? ” Then write the answer in a complete sentence in your notebook, page 2, dated 1/5/2012 4. After you have complete 1 – 11, turn in your map and keep your answers in your notebook

A traders from Constantinople could travel: north on the Black Sea to the Danube River, sailed up the river to Vienna, travel overland from Vienna to the Elbe River, And sail up the Elbe to Hamburg.

  12. Critical Thinking 11. The Holy Roman Empire was contained within central Europe. It did not include lands in Asia, Africa or, Western Europe. It did extend further north than the Roman Empire.

  13. Read in your Journey Across Time Textbook , The Legacy of Rome, pages 325- 326 1. Read, The Legacy of Rome, pages 325 – 326, in your Journey Across Time Textbook, 2. Complete, # 3 on page 326: Summarizing Information Draw a diagram like the one in the book. Fill in details about Rome’s Legacies in the areas of government, law and citizenship. Turn in, if not complete in class, complete in your notebook
