10 Campus University System. • 220,000 Students. • 120,000 Faculty, Staff, and Administrators. • Research, Teaching, and Service: benchmarks of Evaluation. • Under-represented groups have grown. • Diversity is still elusive. • Minority Faculty and Administration underrepresented.
ETHNIC STUDIES Interdisciplinary study of racialized peoples in the United States and elsewhere. Created to teach the stories, histories, struggles and triumphs of ethnic minorities, many who arrive as immigrants.
RESEARCH & STUDENT EXCELLENCE Research Professors • Should be meaningful • Can be personal • Should involve students • Doesn’t need to be Earth Shattering • Can be on-going (evolving) • Emphasize Strengths • Incorporate your Research • Engage your Research • Think out of the Box
Founded in 1994 • Six initial faculty hires, now eleven. • Three full time staff • Close to 100 courses offered yearly • Budget cuts has reduced that number to 60 • Graduate between 75-100 students • 30-50 declare a minor in the field • Most students are 1st Generation, immigrant, or minority. • Increasing participation by African American, Asian, and White students.
