  1. AP Agenda for January 23, 2012 • Attention: Midterm Exams will be returned on Wednesday. I will also assign the final draft of one of your midterm essays on this day. • Assign and begin work on EXERCISES from The Handbook for Writers; choose problems you are noticing in your writing (misuse of commas, pronoun/antecedent agreement, other issues) and then do the ex. that go with these issues. These exercises will be done in class and are due on Friday. • Go over sample essays from midterm exam • Do AP MC Practice #9 and #10

  2. AP Agenda for January 25, 2012 • Return midterm exams and go over results. • Assign final draft/peer editing/discussion board instructions on p. 298 • Watch The Scientist by Coldplay and view it as an experienced rhetorician • Look over mc results; write a short explanation of why you got each question incorrect and turn it in • Continue work on grammar exercises from The Handbook of Writers by doing ex. 16-2, 16-3, 18-3, and 19-4 with a partner

  3. AP Agenda for January 27, 2012 • Group Activity: Work on MLA Documentation Quiz; we will go over this as a class and see how you do • Finish work on grammar exercises and turn them in • Patterns: Read Memo to John Grisham (p. 686) and Violent Media is Good for Kids (p. 678)

  4. DE Agenda for January 24, 2012 • Go over syllabus for ENC 1102 • Assign Literature and Elements of Literature book. (NOTE: You can put a label on your Literature book and leave it in my room.) • Assign homework (for new students) and in-class work (for current students) on Chpt. 41 “Writing about Literature” in Literature (on p. 1891) • Students joining DE English take Winter Reading Quiz • Read from Samuel Johnson’s Dictionary (p. 634 in Elements of Literature) and do group assignment

  5. DE Agenda for January 26, 2012 • Turn in homework • Watch satirical video from The Onion on Comic Sans • Read “A Modest Proposal,” discuss, and assign essay; we will work on this essay in-class next week (Rough Draft due January 30; Peer Editing due February 3; Final Draft due February 7)

  6. SAT/ACT and Writing for College Success Agenda for January 24, 2012 • Go over course rules/syllabus • Pass out and go over Unit #1 Packet • Take SAT/ACT Practice #1 • P. 152-154 , p. 180-182 of The Real ACT Guide • P. 88 of The Official SAT Guide Writing for College Success Students: We will go over syllabus and rules as students are doing their SAT/ACT Practice. Most of this class will be done as independent study. This week and next we are working on paragraphing.
