Camera FILE Formats .jpg - This is a standardized format to save a photo in but it is very compressed and doesn't give you very much control to make changes because of this compression you can fit lots of photos on your camera RAW – This is format that only higher end cameras can save in and it allows you great control to makes changes later but they are very large and as such take up lots of space on your camera.
What is Photographic Composition? • Organizing the various elements of the scene in a way that is pleasing to the eye. • Defining a specific focal point or Main Subject Photographic Composition is:
The focal point is: • An object or area of the photo that you feel is the most important or that should be • emphasized the most. • This can be a person, object , group of objects or even just a specific area of the photo that you want to draw the viewers eye to.
Blurry vs out of focus Blurry Photo, Caused by having shutter speed to slow for the image, the camera in this shot was moving side to side to create the blur. The photos on the right show the sign in focus vs out of focus.
There are 6 different types of Photographic Composition. • Formal Balance • Informal Balance • Rule of thirds • Leading lines • Framing • Horizon Photos
Formal Balance is when the elements of each side of the photo are symmetrical this is often called symmetrical balance
Informal Balance Informal balance relates to the visual balance of the photo. Each side of the photo must relate to the other and therefore balance the scene, but they do not have to be the same item. Often they are the same image at a different size.
Rule of thirds This is the most common type of composition it is created when the subject falls on the intersecting point of the imaginary lines created when you break the photo into thirds both vertically and horizontally
Leading Lines This is a type of composition where you use forground elements to direct the viewer through your photo, ending at The focal point.
Framing This type of composition is where objects in the foreground and Background of a photo help to frame or emphasize the main subject of the photo.
Horizon Photos This is the type of composition Where the horizon is the main focus of the photo and it is placed on the upper third or lower or the photo.
