Discovery and Innovation with Purpose 5 Research Focus Areas: HEALTH &BIOTECH ROBOTICS &INTERNET OF THINGS ADVANCED MATERIALS& MANUFACTURING CYBER, DATA& SECURITY LEARNINGSCIENCES From leading-edge work in tissue regeneration to building smartphone apps that help patients, researchers are exploring ways to apply knowledge from the life sciences to advance medical practice and improve healthcare outcomes. Having launched the nation’s first undergraduate program in robotics engineering in 2007, the university continues to pioneer advances and breakthroughs in this exciting field, as well as cyberphysical systems. Researchers are finding new technologies that make it possible to recover and reuse materials to drive advanced manufacturing in a broad array of industries to fuel economic development and job creation. From security threats and policy, to data mining and machine learning, to addressing a wide range of fire safety issues. All of these efforts are working toward a common theme: to keep us safer in a complicated world. Pioneering new technologies and gaining new insights into how students learn, researchers are doing work that will revolutionize the nation’s education system and make the US competitive in a global market.
