A good résumé is key to landing a job, as it reflects your professionalism. Errors can deter employers, so ensure a polished presentation without spelling mistakes. Choose a format you like, present information thoughtfully, and list experiences in reverse chronological order for clarity. Highlight your skills effectively with action verbs and relevant details, showing initiative and reliability. Emphasize your education and work history, using concise and targeted language to capture the reader's attention. Craft your résumé with care to impress potential employers and increase your chances of securing your desired position.

Professional Experience Employment History Work Experience Employment Experience The choice of heading is yours The most important part of your cv and the most difficult to write well.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE • What do I want them to know about me ? • What have I DONE? • How can I best describe what I have done in order to reveal my skills? • How can I get my resumé noticed?
Rules • Be consistent with format and style • Use job titles and skill headings that relate to and match the position(s) you are applying for • Use action verbs and keywords • Avoid using "I" in your résumé • Be concise and communicate RELEVANT INFORMATION
Consider these three examples: one is too concise, another is appropriate, and one is too detailed. "Designed a K6 motherboard for a sub-$1000 PC"—Too concise. Does not convey details of critical components, nor does it discuss applications. "Designed amotherboardusing the K6processor, 430TX chipsetand associatedperipherals. Target applications were sub-$1000 PCs. To lower cost, graphics accelerationwas integrated on-board."—Appropriate. Discusses critical components, architecture, and applications. "Designed a motherboard using the K6 processor, 430TX chipset, Ultra-I/O controller, SDRAM, 512 KB of cache memory, clock generator, PCI and ISA slots, and a graphics accelerator with 4MB of memory on board. The system was targeted at sub-$1000 PCs being manufactured by various large computer makers in the US, Europe, and Asia."—Too long. Details that can be discussed in the interview are presented here. The statement about computer makers is irrelevant.
Use Action Verbs For more verbs, go to Campus EFREI, English and Cvs, resumés and cover letters.
