  2. What Is Liver Cirrhosis? Liver Cirrhosis is the last stage of scarring (Fibrosis) of the liver that involves loss of liver cells. The main cause of cirrhosis are alcohol, hepatitis, and other liver diseases. Due to excessive use of alcohol or any diseases, the liver gets injured. Liver tries itself to repair the injury, thus it forms scar on the liver. As cirrhosis develops, lot of scar tissues forms and it intercept the liver function. Liver cirrhosis is a deadly diseases & can be treated when diagnosed early. Some other causes are certain medications, viruses, toxic metals, etc. Cirrhosis destroys the relation between blood and liver cells. It also obstruct the liver cells & the channels through which bile flows. These two things arises many issues in the body. ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●

  3. Symptoms People with cirrhosis may or may not have few symptoms until it reaches critical stage. Causes Excessive use of alcohol Chronic hepatitis (B, C, D) Cystic fibrosis Certain medications, like methotrexate Fat accumulation in the liver Hemochromatosis Destruction of the bile duct Scarring on the bile duct Inherited diabetes problem Infection, like syphilis, brucellosis ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ●

  6. Risk Factors Too much of alcohol consumption ● Drinking of excess alcohol is a major risk factor of liver cirrhosis. High level of alcohol usage injure liver cells. It causes a range of liver diseases includes, steatosis, alcoholic hepatitis, cirrhosis, etc. Uncontrolled diet & obese ● Being overweight is a risk factor that may leads to liver cirrhosis. Some of the diseases caused by obese are, non alcoholic fatty liver disease, non alcoholic steatosis, etc. Chronic hepatitis ● It is another common risk factor of liver cirrhosis. Not everyone with chronic hepatitis develop cirrhosis. If it treated well, then there is no any risk.

  7. Prevention There are some ways to reduce the risk of cirrhosis. You should alcohol if you have any liver diseases. You should eat healthy diet full of fruits & vegetables. Protein rich whole grains are good for liver. Avoid the use of fatty & fried foods. You should maintain your body weight. Excess amount of fat in the body damages the liver function. Do exercise regularly the prevent obesity. Reduce the risk of hepatitis by avoiding the use of shared needles, unprotected sex. Take proper hepatitis vaccination. ● ● ● ●

  8. Diagnosis Tests Liver cirrhosis can be first detected by blood test or checkup. To confirm the disease, there are some diagnostic lab tests available. Blood test - The doctor may recommend to check the excess level of bilirubin, certain enzymes that may damage the liver function. Blood test helps to know the underlying cause of cirrhosis. It can also shows the amount of creatinine. Imaging test - Imaging tests like MRI, CT, Ultrasound scan are recommended to know the condition of liver. Other imaging test called Magnetic Resonance Elastography (MRE) may also be recommended. Biopsy - Doctor may also requested to take biopsy for accurate result. ● ● ●
