  1. What Kind of “Smart” are You?

  2. Today we are going to learn about the 8 different types of intelligences or “smarts” that each of you have in common. What type of “Smart” are you?

  3. Word Smart • How many of you are able to speak? • How many of you are able to write? ☺Someone who is “word smart” might enjoy reading, telling stories, journal keeping, speeches, word games, worksheets, or writing activities.

  4. Logic Smart • How many of you can do math? • How many of you have done a science experiment? ☺Someone who is “logic smart” might enjoy logic puzzles and games, math problems, science thinking, or performing experiments.

  5. Picture Smart • How many of you can draw? • How many of you enjoy watching T.V or movies or like to play video games? ☺Someone who is “picture smart” might enjoy 3D construction kits, art, charts, graphs, diagrams, maps, painting, photography, movies or visual thinking exercises.

  6. Body Smart • How many of you like to play sports? • How many of you enjoy making things with you hands, like Legos? ☺Someone who is “body smart” might enjoy competitive games, cooking, crafts, field trips, hands-on activities, using manipulatives, or P.E. activities.

  7. Music Smart • How many of you enjoy listening to music? • How many of you have ever played a musical instrument or sang a song? ☺Someone who is “music smart” might enjoy creating new melodies, group singing, listening to music, playing live music, rhythms, songs, raps, or chants.

  8. People Smart • How many of you have at least one friend? • How many of you like working in groups? ☺Someone who is “people smart” might enjoy board games, being in clubs, peer sharing, parties or social gatherings, or community involvement.

  9. Self Smart • How many of you have a secret place to go when you want to be by yourself? • How many of you like working alone? ☺Someone who is “self smart” might enjoy choice time, setting personal goals, independent study, individualized activities, or personal connections to activities.

  10. Nature Smart • How many of you enjoy being out in nature? • How many of you have pets or enjoy spending time with animals? ☺Someone who is “nature smart” might enjoy gardening, aquariums, nature walks, nature movies, or using nature study tools (binoculars, telescope).

  11. Game: “That’s Me!” I am going to say a number of different statements. If that statement relates to you in someway, I need you to stand up and say “That’s Me!”

  12. Word Smart:I have read 10 different books in the past month.My favorite subject is reading. I like doing word ladders. Logic Smart:My favorite subject is math. I like performing science experiments.I enjoy doing sudoku puzzles.Picture Smart:I enjoy drawing pictures.I am good at visualizing a picture as I read.My favorite subject is art.

  13. Body Smart:I am part of a sports team.I love doing brain breaks.I enjoy using manipulatives as I learn.Music Smart:I own at least 5 different music CD’s . My favorite subject is music.I play an instrument.People Smart:I enjoy working with a partner or in a group.I am apart of some type of club.I enjoy playing board games.

  14. Self Smart: I have my own personal journal that I write in often. I would rather work alone than in a group.I enjoy doing sudoku puzzles.Nature Smart:I like to do things outside. My favorite field trip was going to the zoo. I enjoy studying living things and their environments. How many of you stood up for all 3 examples in one of the “smart” categories?
