All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything. • 13) Food is for the stomach, and the stomach is for food; but God will do away with both of them. David Made A Huge Mistake David was an adulterer • David did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and did not turn aside from anything that he commanded him all the days of his life, except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite. (1 Kings 15:5) • Even a good man can fall into serious sin • “The Bible must be the Word of God because man would never write anything so disapproving of himself! The Bible does not flatter us, nor does it teach—as virtually every other religion does—that man can perfect himself. In fact, Scripture is pessimistic in the extreme regarding man’s innate ability.” We must turn to God to survive !
A look to lust Is all it takes Adultery begins in the heart • Matt 5:28-30 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. God Controls Our Destiny When we Sin Against Him
If David Can Do It So Can I • David was a fortunate man • God realized his sin and send a prophet to him to remind him of it • Nathan told it like it was to David • David listened • David had the heart that melted under the weight of sin • He had the will to repent
Misconceptions Not true! “Sex is the only sin God cannot forgive”
Misconceptions Not true! “David was a really bad man after all”
Misconceptions Not true! “I could NEVER do that…….”
Misconceptions Not true! “This is irrelevant for me as I am a woman”
Misconceptions Not true! This has nothing to do with the rest of my life”
The Slippery Slope of Sin • James 1:13-15 Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. • No one’s fault but yours, not God’s or anyone else because you make the call ! No One To Blame But Ourselves
How Did King David Try To Deal With His Sin • He tried to cover it up • Job 24:15 The eye of the adulterer waits for the twilight, Saying, 'No eye will see me'; And he disguises his face. • 2 Sam 11:8 And David said to Uriah, "Go down to your house and wash your feet.“ • What was he trying to do?
How Did King David Try To Deal With His Sin David Premeditatedly Planned Uriah’s Death • He even was willing to commit murder to cover his sin • 2 Sam 11:15-17 And he wrote in the letter, saying, "Set Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retreat from him, that he may be struck down and die." 16 So it was, while Joab besieged the city, that he assigned Uriah to a place where he knew there were valiant men. 17 Then the men of the city came out and fought with Joab. And some of the people of the servants of David fell; and Uriah the Hittite died also. David even allowed some of his own Fighting men to die to ensure Uriah’s death
God Was Telling David The Facts David learned his lesson the hard way • God tells David of his disappointment • 2 Sam 12:7-9 'I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. 8 I gave you your master's house and your master's wives into your keeping, and gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if that had been too little, I also would have given you much more! 9 Why have you despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in His sight? You have killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword; you have taken his wife tobe your wife.
David learned his lesson the hard way • God punishes David severely the rest of his days • 2 Sam 12:10-12 Now therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.' 11 Thus says the LORD: 'Behold, I will raise up adversity against you from your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in the sight of this sun. 12 For you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, before the sun.'" • Also his son with Bathsheba was also taken from him in death
Our few moments of passion are never worth the cost • We have to use good judgment like Joseph did with sexual sins • Gen 39:9 There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?" • Gen 39:11-12 that she caught him by his garment, saying, "Lie with me." But he left his garment in her hand, and fled and ran out.
Sometime fleeing sin is the only safe avenue • Always remember we sin against God • Always remember we have a choice • Always think before you act • Always remember your actions have consequences • Always remember it will effect where you will spend eternity and others too
