  2. Your Induction Period Your Induction period is designed to: • Offer you support during your first year of teaching. • Provide you with a firm foundation for future professional and career development

  3. Main Features of Induction There are two main aspects to induction: • Professional development and monitoring • Assessment against Core Standards

  4. What Can you Expect? • 10% reduction in timetable in addition to the guaranteed minimum 10% for Planning, Preparation and Assessment (PPA). • An individualised induction programme • An induction tutor/mentor • Observation of your teaching with follow up review meetings • A programme of professional development opportunities • Termly assessment meetings

The Core Standards • A coherent and progressive set of standards for classroom teachers • Were introduced in 2007 • There are 41 standards – these are known as the ‘core standards’ in the framework • They are the core standards that underpin all the subsequent professional standards for teachers • They fall into three section; Professional Attributes, Professional Knowledge and Understanding and Professional Skills • To compete induction successfully, NQTs must show by the end of induction that they have met the standards

  7. Guidance on the Standards • Can be found on www.wiganschoolsonline.net/nqt • Groups the 41 standards into themes: • Developing Constructive Relationships • Working within the Law and Frameworks • Professional Knowledge and Understanding • Professional Skills • Developing Practice

  10. Registration with the LA • Your school MUST register you as an NQT before you start induction. • Ensure the form has been completed and your TDA tests in Numeracy Literacy and ICT are included. • Send the completed form to Lorraine Carey, Progress House, Westwood Park Drive, WN3 4HH

  11. Career Entry Development Programme (CEDP) • You should have signed off Transition Point 1 • Transition Point 2 – at the start of induction • Discuss your priorities with your induction tutor/mentor • Plan your induction programme • Guide you through your induction

Using Your CEDP Gathering evidence: • Reports on your teaching; • Observation reports • Examples of your planning • Records of objectives set during your ITT programme • Your own audits of your progress towards the core standards • Course assignments or subject audits Sample formats and template are given within the Wigan Materials for NQTs and NQT Mentors

Wigan Support Materials for NQTs • To help NQTs: • To monitor their progress against the core standards • To identify their professional development needs and priorities, including any further experience, monitoring and support that would be helpful • To help lesson planning - use template/websites etc • To help reflection upon practice • To support accreditation opportunities • To help induction tutors/mentors working with NQTs: • To set objectives • To review their progress towards meeting the standards • To identify support • To plan and monitor their development opportunities

  14. Accreditation • All Wigan NQTs are entitled to register for the Edge Hill University Module 3371 Beginning a Career in Teaching • Submission of your CEDP at the end of the year will result in you gaining 20 CATs points towards an M Level qualification
