  1. APS AAHEP5 Update Mark Doyle September 21, 2011

Usual stuff • Search engine upgrade – includes non-APS content for first time • Launched new referee, rights, and profile applications with single sign-on (for members and readers as well), about 80,000 activated accounts. Adding about 500 per week • Working on full text display (MathJax), figure browsing, etc.

  3. ORCID • APS active in Technical Architecture Group and joint TAG/BWG group • Latest update • http://www.orcid.org/sites/default/files/ORICID_Interim_Update_Sep_2011.pdf • Phase 1 system being actively developed • Criteria for launch being defined • Phase 2 (hard part) waiting for resources

Collaboration Author Lists XML • Implemented and used by ATLAS and CMS • Early issues ironed out successfully • Very effective at streamlining our internal workflow as well as our production vendor workflow • Would like to see it more widely adopted • Remaining issues usually have to do with collaboration politics (what does it mean to list an institution without any affiliated authors?) • New submission server will treat collaborations differently and use XML if available

Creative Commons • Launched in February • Open access Physical Review Special Topics journals use Creative Commons 3.0 Attribution license (no share-alike or commercial limitations) • Authors may select this license for any of our other journals for a fee • Agreement in place with CERN to pay for LHC papers in 2011 • Seeking agreements with others

  6. Physical Review X • New journal – first issue closes at end of September with about 12 papers • Open access (author fee), CC Attribution license, $1500 per article • Acceptance rate closer to PRL than to the Phys. Rev. journals (NOT PLoS One-type journal) • Cross-disciplinary, aiming for broad readership

  7. Data sets • Starting to explore how to curate data sets and link them with papers • What is the role of a publisher? Of a scholarly society? • Perhaps not a relevant for HEP or Astronomy who have extremely large, well-curated data sets • Would like to cooperate with others
