  1. Don Alexander for State Representative My name is Don Alexander. I am a progressive running for State Representative in District 65. If elected, I promise to introduce the following legislation at the earliest possible time: A raise in the state minimum wage to $15/hr. The current legislation being considered will raise the minmum wage to $10.10/hr. by the year 2017. As a living wage is NOW between $14 and $15/hr, $10.10/hr. is UNACCEPTABLE! Creation of a SINGLE-PAYERHEALTHCARE PLAN in Ct. The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), while having SOME very good sections, still leaves the healthcare and insurance industries in charge, but what would you expect when the top 3 and 4 of the top 10 recipients of campaign contributions from those industries were Democrats the year before the ACA was enacted. Legalize marijuana for recreational use. Marijuana is no more dangerous than either alcohol or cigarettes. I would ask anyone who opposes legalization because of its danger to tell me what they are doing to make cigarettes and alcohol illegal. A tuition-free 4 year college education at Ct. public colleges and universities for any Ct. residents who would like to continue their education. The first 2 years would be at a community college and the next 2 would be at a 4 year school. Creation of a state bank. Create a state “Good Neighbor Policy”, giving tax credits or rebates to small businesses who hire and retain Ct. residents and who use Ct. based suppliers. Ban fracking and transporting of fracking waste in Ct. Legalize hemp as a cash crop and for manufacturing in Ct. If you would like to know more about my campaign and where I stand on these and other issues, please visit my web site at (To be determined) or visit my Facebook group (TBD).
