U.S. Naval Traditions • Our Sea Power Flexing our “muscle” to other Navy’s & the world. This is one of the core reasons for our overseas representation. • Sea Power is a Representation of the soundness of our economy • The character of our government • Our industrial efficiency • The development of internal communications • The quality and numbers of our harbors • The location of homeland bases and overseas territories with respect to sea communication
Sea power Cont. • Our Sea power consists too on Maritime Strategy. The US seeks to deter war, but when any country starts hostilities or conflict, the United States defends itself and its allies. • National Military strategy rests on 3 basic pillars: • Deterrence • Forward Defense & • Alliance Solidarity
Sea power Cont. When deterrence fails to prevent an enemy’s attack, the United States responds in one of four forms • Meets force w/ force at the point of attack • Increases the intensity of the conflict • Alters the geographic width of the conflict or lastly • Controls the duration of the fighting.
Leadership and Admin Responsibilities • There are several main responsibilities • Monitor the Morale, maintenance of the work environment, cleanliness of the working environment • Good handle on the management of personnel, materials & time • Work Center Schedule • Used daily to keep the team on course with tasks • Should be used to plan for unexpected events
Leadership and Admin Responsibilities • Subordinate Development (Molding a leader) • Delegate tasks to allow subordinate’s to learn • Most effective way for learning is doing • Responsibility cannot be delegated • Provide counseling • Positive and Negative • Negative counseling is used to correct deficiencies • Types of Counseling • Command Counseling Sheet • Pg. 13 • Mid-Term & Evaluation
Leadership and Admin Responsibilities • Evaluations • Used to document performance of Sailor • A “Brag Sheet” should be provided by that member • Great Idea to keep a running log of accomplishments • Promotion Recommendations are based on your feedback • Always double check your personal information • Evaluation Rankings (i.e. P/ MP/EP) • Write up should flow as read • Be Honest about your accomplishments • If you feel someone is performing at a higher level state that • Use the Opening-Body-Closing format
Programs and Policies • CMEO • Command Managed Equal Opportunity • Ensures that the command is complying with EO policies • CAT • Command Assessment Team • Assesses effectiveness of programs and morale at individual commands. • CTT • Command Training Team • Ensure command is holding training on Navy Rights & Responsibilities
Programs and Policies Cont. • DAPA • Drug and Alcohol Program Advisor • Training, Screening and Follow up • Reports directly to the Commanding Officer
Professional Responsibilities • EMI • Extra Military Instruction • Non-punitive, used to correct a deficiency • Assigned by LCPO (E7) or above • Limitations • No more than 2 hrs/day never on the Sabbath (Sunday) • Assigned @ a reasonable time outside working hours • Limited amount of time to correct the deficiency
Professional Responsibilities • Extension of Working Hours • It is Illegal to deprive Sailor of liberty/ privileges as punishment • Used to accomplish tasks that should have been completed during normal working hours
