Data without Boundaries and work package 4 • European Commission Framework Program 7 founded Data without Boundaries (DwB) project runs from May 2011 to April 2015. • 29 partners from 11 European countries (NSIs, archives and universities). • Main goal: ease transnational research in Europe. • 12 work packages (WP) address topics like: legal issues, accreditation, resource discovery, data documentation, disclosure control etc. • WP 4 is about “Improving access to OS microdata”.
European Remote Access Network (EU-RAN) • Based on a survey about the state of play in Europe (NSI and CESSDA). • Service for existing solutions and future needs. • Bringing together • 1 to N researchers from 1 to N countries to • 1 to N data sources in 1 to N European countries. • And provide them with the tools to do breathtaking research • Main components: • Single Point of Access (SPA), Virtual Research Environments (VRE) and Microdata Computation Centre (MiCoCe)
Summary • DwB deliverable 4.2 includes a basic architecture or Eu-RAN. • The concept was discussed within the project and with stakeholders from all over Europe. • Feedback was positive. • A limited pilot with CASD, IAB and UKDA tests basic requirements for a network (technical, organisational, and legal topics). • Next steps are under discussion (software demo, workshop for MiCoCe etc.)
