  1. Financial Fortitude Columbia, MD Alumnae Chapter Economic Development Activities 2006-2007 Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

  2. Economic Development Goals • Economic Development is one of the Sorority’s 5 Point Program Thrusts. The goal is to help bridge the gap between wealth and poverty. • During the 2006-2007 Sorority year, Economic Development conducted workshops in the area of Financial Empowerment, Estate Planning (Wills, Trusts, Power of Attorney, etc.) and Debt Management. In addition, the committee sponsored several Katrina Families who had relocated to Howard County, Maryland.

  3. Budgeting Budgeting Workshop discussed Understanding Spending Habits, Assessing Credit History and Wealth Building

  4. Financial Empowerment • Empowerment Workshop stressed Savings Initiatives • Led by Sorors Kizzie Bozeman-Brown, Lorie Booker and Pat Goings

  5. Estate Planning Workshop • Estate Planning Workshop addressed Wills, Trusts, Power of Attorney and preparing for the unexpected • Led by Soror Ethel Mitchell, Esq.

  6. Katrina Family Relief Effort • The Katrina Family Relief effort was a community focused event where the Economic Development, Political Awareness and Past President’s Council worked together in conjunction with the Howard County Public School System Office of Student Services to identify Katrina Families with school aged children in need of assistance.
