To America!. Elisabeth and Matthias were living in Germany ( Elisabeth and Matthias are Mrs. Bowen's grandparents). It was very crowded there. The worse thing was always being hungry. They would have to eat a small bit and save it. FOOD!. FOOD!.

The worse thing was always being hungry. They would have to eat a small bit and save it. FOOD! FOOD!
When they got on the boat, they had to be checked, strangers (meaning police) went through their bags, and they didn’t like it.
They stayed on a ship for 14 days, called U.S.S. Lexington. There were many storms. I’m sure they got sick.
When they got off the boat they were in America. It was in Ellis Island, New York. There they had Translators.
It was hard for them because they had to change their names so they would be more American. Also to make it worse, they didn’t know any English. Elisabeth< Elizabeth Matthias< Mathew
When they got off Ellis Island they moved to a farm in Wisconsin. They worked and lived there.
