There’s Nothing in My Bag Today! Today I did Math and Science, I toasted bread. I halved and quartered. I counted, measured, used my eyes, And ears and head. I added and subtracted on the way, I used a magnet, blocks and memory tray. I learned about a rainbow and how to weigh. So, please don’t say, “anything in your bag today?”

Books • All workbooksand fileswill be kept in school. • They will be returned to pupils periodically for parents’ endorsement. • Pupils are to have their storybooksin their bags everyday. • Use of Word Bank Book to record new words that they have just learned. 4
Handbook • The pupils’ handbook is a good communication tool between parents and teachers. • It should be in pupils’ bags everyday. • Parents are to check the handbook daily. • Parents are to remind pupils to show notes written • in the handbook to their teachers. 5
REMEDIAL Maths – Every Tuesday 2 – 3.30 pm English – Every Friday 2 – 3.30 pm * There must be a valid reason for not attending the lessons. 6
Physical Education • Term 1: Fundamental Movement 1 • Term 2: Manipulative Skills 1 • Term 3: Educational Gymnastics • Term 4: Game Concepts (target games/team relay) • Pupils who has PE lessons on Monday can wear PE attire the whole day. They do not have to wear school uniform and schooltie. • P1 Swim Programme will be scheduled end of term 1/term 2 outside curriculum time. (Most likely on day of remedial – Tuesday and Friday) Letter of notification will be issued nearer the date.
Health Education • To promote the importance of dental hygiene, all pupils will be required to participate in a once a week tooth brushing exercise in Term 2. • Parents are to provide them with toothbrush and mug which can be kept in the locker. • The exercise will be carried out after recess at the canteen. • Please also be informed that every Wednesday is fruit day, pupils are highly encouraged to eat fruits on the day. 14
English STELLAR : Strategies for English Language Learning and Reading • It is designed to help pupils acquire English language skills through activities in listening, speaking, reading, writing and visual literacy. • It adopts 3 strategies at the lower primary. 18
STELLAR STELLAR Strategies: • Shared Book Approach (SBA) which uses motivating and enjoyable big books. • Modified Learning Experience Approach(MLEA) where pupils goes through an experience and are exposed to the appropriate vocabulary before embarking on their story writing process. 19

Holistic Assessment What is Holistic Assessment? • To move away from an overly strong emphasis on examinations in Primary 1 and 2 • We explore the use of bite-sized forms of assessment (Holistic Assessment) • This Holistic Assessment aims to help build pupils’ confidence and desire to learn. This will help ease pupils’ transition from pre-school to primary school. 21
Holistic Assessment • Places less importance on semestral examinations in Primary 1 so as to ease pupils’ transition from pre-school to primary school. Primary 2 pupils could be slowly conditioned into taking examinations. • Uses rubrics to assess and provide pupils with richer and more holistic feedback on their development and skills acquisition in academic and non-academic areas. 22

CCA @ NVPSTalent Identification & Development Primary 1 Pupils will have to opt to join at least 1 CCA through the online option exercise (Option open period for P1: 6th Feb, Saturday to 10th Feb, Wednesday) Preferable for parents to complete selection today. For the 1st term, pupils are encouraged to go through this experiential stage to better gauge and identify their interest and passion area
CCAs will comprise of 2 main groups Competitive Group – at a high level of performance and groomed to represent the school in national and international competitions Elective Group – yet to reach a high level and can be further developed and/or has a strong interest in the CCA. *Pupils identified to be talented in any particular CCA category via school programmes and events after Term 1, will be channeled to a suitable CCA to further develop him/her for future achievements where there are more opportunities for the child to perform and/or compete at cluster or national level.
CCA @ NVPSTalent Identification & Development General letter has been sent out to all parents. Option exercise will be online this year (Lead.com.sg portal) Pupils will be notified of their allocated CCAs and they will have to attend CCA immediately after receiving a letter and consent form from the CCA teacher in charge.
