PHYSICAL • Children learn to develop gross and fine motor skills.

What is Discipline • Is the process of teaching your child what type of behavior is acceptable and what type is not acceptable. • 3 type of Discipline:
AUTHORITATIVE • Clear Expectations and consequences • Affectionate toward his or her child • Collaborative problem solve
AUTHORITARIAN • Clear Expectations and consequences • Shows little affection toward his or her child
PERMISSIVE • Shows lots of affection toward his or her child but provides little discipline • There are two different types of consequences
NATURAL CONSEQUENCE • Let the child experience the result of that behavior.
Logical Consequence • The consequence is directly linked to the behavior.
What happens if there’s not a natural or logical consequence? • Take Away Privileges • Time outs • Corporal Punishment

Characteristic of Negative Self-Concept I am not nearly as good as my friends. Why try? I could never do it anyway. I am a jerk. I cannot do anything right. I knew my plans would not work.
Positive Self-Concept I can do anything I really want to do. I have definite strengths and abilities. I am an okay person. I see myself as being as good as my friends. There are many ways to solve a problem.
Building Self Esteem • Associate with people who build. • Build others, sincere compliments. • Set and achieve goals. • Eat correctly, look your best. • Observe self-confident people. • Ask for help. • Improve yourself, learn something new. • Do not say negative things about yourself. Think positively.
