Assessment Pages on the Current Model IEP Form • Currently, the state model IEP form contains five pages dedicated to statewide and district-wide assessments. The Michigan Department of Education is in the process of instituting multiple changes to all state-wide assessments which will result in changes to the current assessment pages in the state model IEP form. • Instead of five pages listing all of the assessment choices, the Office of Special Education will replace those pages with the following IEP requirements:
Replacement Language • The IEP must address the assessmentaccommodations that are necessary to measure the academic achievement and functional performance of the student on state and district-wide assessments, and • If the IEP Team determines that the student must take an alternate assessment instead of a particular regular state or district-wide assessment of student achievement, • A statement of why the student cannot participate in the regular assessment and • List the particular alternate assessment selected for the student.
For example . . . If the IEP Team determines the student will take the general education assessment, • It is not necessary to state the name of the general assessment in the IEP, although it’s fine to do so. However, • The accommodationsmust be specified in the IEP, by content area.
For example . . . If the IEP Team determines the student will take an alternate assessment, the IEP must include: • A statement of why the student cannot participate in the general education assessment and • The name of the alternate assessment(s) selected for the student and • The specific assessmentaccommodations required by the student.

Video Contributions Needed • Dr. Karen Erickson is looking for videos of quality lessons and assessment sessions in all instructional settings related to ELA or mathematics. • Would also like videos of teachers and students as they engage in the upcoming field test events. • Videos can be of any length. • If interested, see Media Release handout on how to contact her at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
