Goldfarb - ATLAS Outreach & Education Higgs Machine Learning Challenge • Goals: Promote interaction between atlas and the machine learning (ML) community • Outreach geared to computer-savvy people • In a nutshell (very simplified): • we put on the web a simplified ntuple of Higgs to tau tau signal and background • People (computer scientists but also undergrads, geeks…) execute their favourite classification technique (BDT and the like), submit their solution… • …which is automatically ranked. When the challenge ends, the winner gets a prize • The organisation committee was setup in november : • ATLAS management and experts : Thorsten Wengler, Andreas Hoecker and JoergStelzer (TMVA), Glen Cowan (statistics), David Rousseau (tau tau analysis). • Organisation side : Claire Adam (in contact with CERN outreach, communication, lawers), one contact from the kaggle company + an experienced challenge organisers in the US . • Computer scientists in LaboratoireRechercheInformatique at Orsay : Cecile Germain, BalazsKegl and one representative of the management. • Status is essentially “work in progress”  but for sure : • The challenge will start in may and run through the summer • An EP seminar will be given to advertise it, and winners will be invited at CERN to meet us. • The challenge web page will have a link to an “outreach web page” presenting us.
