  3. What is a verb? • Doing word/action word • Part of Speech • Syntax of a language structure • In Spanish there are 3 main verbs: • -ar • -er • -ir

  4. Can we say: • Mi caballocantar opera. • No • Why not. What is wrong? • We need to agree the verb with the subject.

  5. So what do we do with the verb? • cantar is our verb • cantar is the infinitive form (stem) • Take the infinitive and chop off the –ar. • Now + the correct ending

  6. Los Pronombres Personales (Subject Pronouns) Singular yo tú él / ella / Ud. Plural nosotros vosotros ellos / ellas / Uds.

  7. Spanish verb endings/conjugations • Yo cant +o • Tu cant + as • El/ella cant +a • Nosotros/nosotras cant + amos • Vosotros/vostotros cant + áis • Ellos/ellas cant +an

  8. El verbo “cantar” • Canto • Cantas • Canta • Cantamos • Cantáis • Cantan

  9. Every verb has 2 parts: Hablar = habl- Practicar = practi- Estudiar = estudi- Trabajar = trabaj- Cocinar = cocin- STEM + ENDING Mirar = mir- Escuchar = escuch- Jugar = jug- Presentar = present- Comprar = compr- + AR

  10. To form the present tense: STEM + Verb ending -o -as -a -amos -áis -an
