Measuring weather • A large body of air that has a certain air temperature and moisture content is called an air mass. • Cool air masses usually form where the land is cool. • Warm air masses form where the land temperature is warmer. • During the summer months in New York, the weather is hot and sticky. That stickiness is caused by humidity. • Humidity is moisture in the air

Cold Front • A cold front forms when a cold air mass moves underneath a warm air mass, causing warm air mass to rise sharply. • Heavy rains, thunderstorms, and snow are linked with cold fronts. • These are called precipitation
Warm Front • A warm front forms when air moves up and over a cold air mass. Light rains or clouds are linked with a warm front. • Light rains or clouds are linked with a warm front.
