Function and Affected Issues • Requires the government and federal agencies to give proper consideration to the environmental impact before taking major federal action, on any new projects or policies • Establish a Council of Environmental Quality (invoked when airports, buildings, military complexes, highways, parkland purchases, and other federal activities are proposed ) - Requires Environmental Assessments (EA’s) and Environmental Impact statements (EIS) from all federal agencies. • This Act affects all Environmental issues, because it makes the government consider the impact that any policies will have on the environment ex. oil drilling, global warming, habitat and species protection

  4. The Council of Environmental Quality (CEQ) • Issues guidelines for EIS to federal agencies • Coordinates/regulates federal agencies and programs related to the environment (excluding congress, judiciary, and president) • Helps the President prepare the annual Environmental Report
